Description

Project Categorization may be used to organize projects, thus making it easier for users to discover Projects and leverage the work that has already been done.

Users can discover Projects by selecting a Business Unit, Category, and Tags. The user can then take the following steps for one of the matching Projects:

  1. Select a Project to view within the Project Dashboard
  2. Copy the existing Project to create a new Project
  3. Modify the Project to meet their specific testing requirements

How are Projects Categorized?

Projects are categorized by Business Units, Categories, and Tags. These are described in further detail below:

Item

Description

Business UnitAn organizational structure, such as a department or team that produces revenues and is responsible for costs (e.g., Bank).

This is the highest categorization level. An organization can create as many Business Units as needed.
CategoryA group of Projects with similar characteristics (e.g., Credit Card, Checking, Savings).

There is no limit on the number of Categories that can be created within a Business Unit.
TagA keyword that further defines a Category and helps users identify related Projects within an organization (e.g., New Accounts, Payments Received).

This is the lowest categorization level. A Category can have up to five Tags.

How does Project Categorization work?

An Org Admin creates a global list of Business Units, Categories, and Tags that users can use to categorize and label their Projects. These steps are outlined below:

Step 1: Create Business Units, Categories, and Tags

Org Admins can create Business Units, Categories, and Tags in the GenRocket web platform. Before creating these items, we highly recommend Org Admins take time to plan and consider how this feature can be used within their organization.

Step 2: Assign Categories and Tags to Projects

An Org Admin or the Project Creator must assign Categories and Tags to a Project before users can discover it. Categories and Tags are assigned to Projects after they have been created. This is done by clicking on the Project Categorization icon for the Project.

Users then select a Business Unit and Tags within Categories. More than one Category and Tag can be selected to assign to a Project.

Step 3: Users Discover Projects by Business Unit, Category, and Tags

Users can discover Projects based on Business Unit, Category, and Tags by clicking on the Filter Projects icon in the Project Dashboard.

Users will need to select a Business Unit and then use the checkboxes to select Tags within one or more Categories. Once finished, they click on the Search button to discover Projects.
